First of all you need an outlet for your built up stress. You have been internalizing your feelings, thoughts and opinions, especially when it comes to your parents. Go to student services or a counselor and request a referral to a therapist for your stress.
-1-Write in a diary everything you feel and keep it on your person-close to you. I mean cruse if you want say what is on your mind.
-2-Write poetry at the time you shut down as you said usually right after your parents scowl you-because they are not communicating with you. It takes two people to communicate-which is a dialog between two are more people.
-3-Write a letter to your parents but do not show it to them-this is a technique usually used for people whose parents are no longer living.

Right now you are getting emotionally, physically and psychologically sick because you are not getting rid of those toxic words that your parents are feeding you.
You have taken back the power by seeking help so don't stop there continue to be proactive with your mental health.
Look for teen support services in your state make the web your best friend it has a wealth of information.

Good luck parents can be toxic too there not perfect!
References :
suicide hotlines.com

Parents causing unhealthy stress.. HELP!!!?
1st year starting college, 5 years tuition paid for, and $1200 a month and I have to pay 60% of that back. I'm 17, and my parents are charging me $600 a month for rent now all of a sudden. I'll try to make this short. They get mad at me whenever I point something out and say "I wish I had that", because for some reason they think I'm just going to buy it. I've tried numerous times to explain to them that I have a good history of saving my money and spending it very, very wisely. Somehow, they just ignore logic and they don't lecture me, they yell at me.

I'm not the type of person to argue. I just moved here from a very, very small town so I have pretty much no social skills when it comes to meeting people. So the fact that my parents always get mad at me unnecessarily and I have a very hard time making friends doesn't help me when it comes to managing stress.

The reason why I made this question is... Within the first 2 days of college, the stress has been so bad that I've been experiencing severe pain on the left side of my chest, for about 10-15 minutes. Also, I get very bad head rushes, and I get dizzy randomly. It's starting to scare me, and I am become very depressed and somewhat suicidal again (I used to be severely depressed since I was 11, but I never told anyone). Is there anything I can do to help cope with this stress? I really don't want to take pills or anything and I refuse to try to talk to them anymore. Now when they argue with me, I literally just don't say a word to them, I just wait till they're done and I walk away.

So please help me. Thanks in advance everyone.
